Our Mission

For over a decade, Global Christian Ministry Forum Canada has given humanitarian aid to marginalized communities and individuals in Nepal.

Below are a few of the outreaches GCMF Canada has assisted with, thanks to your love and generous hearts!

When devastating heavy rains and mudslides hit Nepal in 2024, GCMF was able to provide funding to purchase food and deliver it to people in desperate need.

In partnership with our Nepali fieldworker, we have provided relief to victims of natural disasters with food, medical care, and rebuilding homes.

Many were hospitalized with Covid and could not afford their medical care costs. GCMF was able to send funds to help cover the cost of medical care and treatments for several who were severely ill.

Under persecution, a young Nepalese family had their home and all they owned burned down to nothing, just because they were Christians. GCMF was able to provide funding to help build a new home for them.

It has been our mission to meet the needs of those who are often overlooked and forgotten. Over the years we have seen how a small act of kindness can make a huge difference for someone in need.

Why Goats?

In rural Nepal, most people rely upon what their own small farms can produce.

Usually, these farms will have goats since they are animals which can flourish in the high mountainous environment.

Goats are a prized commodity in Nepal as they provide milk, fiber for textiles and the meat used in traditional Nepali cuisine.

Life is generally difficult for widows living in the poorer, remote areas of Nepal.

In 2024, we helped 12 impoverished widows by purchasing a pair of goats for each one.

We asked them that when their goats produced kids, they would give away a pair of kids to another distressed widow in their community.

Passing on the blessings.

We have seen the kindness and gratitude of these widows as they have now given to others in need. At present, the second recipient widows have gifted their pairs of goats to someone else, and now 36 lives have been changed! Our gifting of twelve goats will be a perpetual gift, continuously bringing a blessing to others in need.

The Reward

In October of 2024, a co-worker and I visited many of the widows who received a pair of goats. Traveling to places off the beaten path, we were greeted with big smiles and overwhelming gratitude. We heard many testimonies from these women of how they now have a brighter future since receiving their goats.

Visiting widow and her goats.jpg

One day, we visited a remote spot on a mountainside dotted with a few tiny homes, one belonging to a widow who had received a pair of goats. Next to her home, was a makeshift pen with a thatched roof and some happy goats feeding on freshly cut grass. Inside her one room dwelling, we asked her what the goats have done for her. The words she shared struck a chord in my heart.

“They have given me purpose for waking up every morning,” she said. “I go through my day with them. They have taken away my loneliness.” That day, I knew we were doing the right thing. Not only did the goats provide sustainable provision, but they also contributed to the well-being of the whole person.

Our Goat Farm

GCMF Canada has now begun constructing our own goat farm in Nepal. It is our desire to give many more goats to marginalized individuals throughout the country.

In the bottom photo is Art Duerksen (left), the owner of the land we obtained for the goat farm (center) and Pastor Ted McLean (right). The scenic photos are of some of the land near the property of GCMF’s goat farm, which shows how rich and fertile the land is in this area.

We have obtained a piece of land on top of a lush mountain – a perfect location to meet all the needs of a goat farm. The building plans have been drawn, and lumber is now being cut. Working alongside experienced and knowledgeable goat farmers, we are working to construct a barn for 40 goats. We expect to have the farm in operation by January 2026.

The photos below show a barn similar to what we are building. It will be a raised barn, with slatted flooring to help keep the barn dry. It will be easier to clean and will help keep the area more sanitary for the goats. The beams beneath the barn will be made of cement making it more stable.

How Will It Work?

On the property there is an existing house in which a family will live and oversee the care of the livestock.

Each year, we expect to produce upwards of 140 kids. We will retain some of the offspring as needed to keep up the herd numbers and a small percentage of the offspring will be sold to help pay for the cost of running the farm, but most will be gifted, under the guidance of local volunteers, to impoverished individuals and families in the local communities and beyond. Those receiving goats will be encouraged to gift a pair of their offspring to someone else in need. In this way, we will be able to bless countless people in need for many years to come.

It is our goal to eventually have the farm be self-sustaining, able to meet its own operating costs. However, over the next few years, we will need to help pay for the expenses of veterinary visits, extra feed during the off-season, and to assist the family living on the property.

Your Donation is a Never-ending Gift

Thankfully, our dollar goes a long way in Nepal. The cost of the first phase of building is $40,000. We have already received $10,000. The cement foundation for the barn will soon be poured, and we hope to see the completion of the barn by the end of 2025. Once completed, we’ll purchase our first goats of a breed suitable for the rugged countryside of Nepal. Each goat will cost approximately $180.

You can change countless lives with the simple gift of a pair of goats.
